When were staples first being used on paintings?
I read that they were invented in the late 1800s, but I'm curious when they started being used to attach canvas to the stretchers. I have a painting that is supposed to be from the 1940s and it has staples, but I'm not sure if that's how it would have come or if it's been restretched. I believe it's right otherwise.
