Oil on Canvas.
Dimension: 16.75" x 14.75" Purchasesd 1970's from estate in PA. Relined 1980's orig stretcher. Is this a legitimate signature by Winslow Homer? Could he have painted it? Thanks for your help. |

It appears to be signed in Winslow Homer's style. And it's not a bad painting, so it's not obviously a fake. Still, I think you'd have trouble getting it accepted as a legitimate Winslow Homer unless you can come up with supporting documentation of some kind.
One question I don't know the answer to is, when Homer was in the Caribbean, did he do any oil painting? All the examples I can find appear to be watercolors except for The Gulf Stream, which was apparently painted after his return to the U.S. |
