Hello all,
I hope you can help me. We have a painting that has been passed down in my family. An art restorer says that it was done by an American painter, probably in the latter half of the 1800's. I have uploaded a picture of the painting, a close-up of the signature and an "enhanced" image of the signature. Can anyone identify who did this painting? Thanks in advance for your help. |

Pretty tough to read that. "J. Moir?e"??? Possibly Moire or Moiree?
I don't have any record of any artists who could be a likely match, but Findartinfo.com is pretty good for this purpose because it has a ton of artists in its database and supports wildcard searching. |

John, thanks much for the lead, I will try there as well.
thatcomedian - It is about the best the picture can get. It is a little clearer in a higher resolution but not a whole lot. Also the signature in the painting seems to be a bit blurred (possibility because the painting is supposed to be about a 120 years old and has never been cleaned - at lease according to the one art restorer I took it to.) Any additional help or suggestions are welcome |
