Roses in vase - help identifying signature

Hello all,

I hope you can help me.

We have a painting that has been passed down in my family. An art restorer says that it was done by an American painter, probably in the latter half of the 1800's.

I have uploaded a picture of the painting, a close-up of the signature and an "enhanced" image of the signature.

Can anyone identify who did this painting? Thanks in advance for your help.

Pretty tough to read that. "J. Moir?e"??? Possibly Moire or Moiree?

I don't have any record of any artists who could be a likely match, but Findartinfo.com is pretty good for this purpose because it has a ton of artists in its database and supports wildcard searching.

A non blurry closeup of the signature would help.

John, thanks much for the lead, I will try there as well.

thatcomedian - It is about the best the picture can get. It is a little clearer in a higher resolution but not a whole lot. Also the signature in the painting seems to be a bit blurred (possibility because the painting is supposed to be about a 120 years old and has never been cleaned - at lease according to the one art restorer I took it to.)

Any additional help or suggestions are welcome
