Hey all, I'm new to the board and I need help! I've acquired a oil-on-board landscape painting by an Austrian artist named Peter Holmer. It is of a wintering forrest with a sectioned red and blue farm building in the foreground with mountians in the back. It has a badge/plate on the back explaining he was born in Salzburg in 1931, attended the International School of Art as well as the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts. It says his work is displayed around the world including places like the Kunstlerhaus and the Sezession as well as Parma Italy. I've emailed both the Kunstlerhaus and the Sezession with no reply.
My grandfather bought the piece in the 1970's. Its a gorgeous well done landscape with a gold leaf frame. Its very large, I'd conservatively estimate atleast 2.5 feet wide and 1.5 feet tall. My grandfather recalls something about Canada to do with the painting but according to the plate on the back the artist is clearly Austrian and its signed "Holmer" clearly on the bottom right. Maybe its a canadian landscape? Any information you guys and gals might have would be greatly appreciated. I've only found one other piece by him and it was very, very tiny (8x10) and I couldn't pull up the for sale add because it was expired on whatever website google found it on. Thank you! |
