I am having a frustrating time trying to understand the workings of this site. Nothing I have found (in FAQ) informs an idiot on how to ask a question, is that "post a thread???" or include pictures of the art in question (which would be helpful if you want to have someone recognise it) I'm doing it the columbus way 'land on it, discover it!'
This site assumes facts not in evidence. just cos I found it on the computer dont mean I can use it. Somewhere, it tells me if I want to include attatchments (I assume a picture is an attatchment as I cant copy it and paste ) click on 'Browse' button at bottom of post: cant find one! to 'manage attatchments' I need to include ULR ??? I cant browse my compter files and load pictures it wont let me. I cant 'contact' any one, e-mail not available??? administrator controles functions I can use but I cant contact one?? ...mmm, Is it only me? Am I the only idiot trying to negociate this site? I see others have attatchments. Others have pictures that dont need attatching. IF ANYONE IS AT ALL INTERESTED IN SEEING MY PAINTING, I set up a FaceBook Checkout: Wally Isme. Photos of my water color are in photo album and on the wall. I really would love to know about it. Lets try this? an 'insert link'. at least it alowed this notation, (as a URL it wouldn't) I'm stumped. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=30748&id=100000995703002&l=c619e473f 7 Thanks for the ear(eye) |

You figured out how to start a thread and post a link, which is really all you need. To upload an attachment, use the paperclip icon after clicking "New Thread" or "Post Reply".
As for the picture, sorry but I do not know anything about this artist. |

Thank you 'host' John: I was beginning to feel all alone in the universe
I do appreciate the feed back. I had to create a facebook account to make a 'link' possible? that can't be right. I did try the paper clip thing but being a creative sort, when told I cant do something, I find a way, albeit frustrating and time consuming. I think I will leave it be, as apparently it worked and you were able to see the painting. I am Eternally hopeful someone will know something even if it is only what kind of ‘dancer’ it is. Thank you again and have a great day. Aloha. |

Don't worry Hilomoon! You are not alone. The site does not spell it out for people like you and me. I'm not sure I got it right in the end and can't remember how I started. However, there are some lovely people tuned in who are up to speed and will make themselves known to you I'm sure. No less than three kind people have tried to answer my question for which I'm grateful. Albeit my question remains unanswered. Chin up! We slow ones can, at least, encourage each other. Best, Guy |

Somehow, I don't think 'Hilomoon' will find that comment very helpful. Don't abuse this site! |

Thank y'all for your kind words.
Roger1: Wow, I thought the term 'wally' went out in the 70's. (For those of you who are unfamiliar with English colloquial expressions, the word 'wally' was usually used by someone to disparage another person and generally, it was not kind) I choose to believe Roger1 was unaware of the meaning and did not intend it as a slur on the character of someone he does not know. Thank you Thatcomedian, I will research "Chinese sleeve dance" and thank you Guy, It is nice to know Chivalry is not dead. Yes I do have a sense of humor... and my name is not Wally |

Just to finish out this thread, I'm sorry you found the interface confusing (you're far from the first), but Artconversation is a standard vBulletin board, one of the most common types. Minor customizations (text messages, page layout) are possible but not IMO very simple. Major customizations such as changing the file upload interface would be extremely difficult and expensive to develop and maintain. It doesn't work the way I would have designed it from scratch, but there's no practical way I can change it.

Many thanks John, I don't think I understand what you said but I do understand putting together such an intricate project can be challenging.
I am so grateful there are folks, like you, out there to aid 'us' who are technically inept. I am beginning to get it (I think) Mahalo and have a great day. |

Sorry "Wally", just a joke - there is room for that on this site as you appreciate. FYI I had the same problem before trying to upload some pics. Just couldn't resist the pun on your FB checkout. Cheers.

Roger that! No problem, being a 'Kentish Maid' I couldn't resist the pun either
It seems my painting is of a Chinese Sleeve Dancer. (I checked out U-tube ) I may never know the artist but without you guys direction, I wouldn't have this much. Thanks |
