Hello;
I am hoping someone here has some expertise identifying a painting. http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?i...5060067pq4.jpg http://img509.imageshack.us/my.php?i...5060073jx6.jpg The painting is (I believe) oil on canvas. Someone I spoke to suggested that this was a portrait of a Bavarian Princess named Amalia. I have not been able to confirm this. She is definitely royalty. There is a crown by her right elbow. My knowledge of fashion history is limited so if anyone can identify roughly the year this would fit into, that would be helpful. thanks, Jenn |

Don't recognize the princess offhand. I thought it might be worth pointing out, though, that portraits of royalty are sometimes copied far and wide.
The original might be by Watteau or whoever, but it could have been copied by hand a hundred times in order that she can grace the walls of public buildings and chateaux across the land. The last time I was in France, I was surprised at how many times in a 2 week visit I ran across the same portraits. |
