Default Please help me identify these....:)

Hi,

I've spent the last three days looking for these paintings online, trying to find out what the name, and artist. Can anyone help, please? I think the still life may be Bale, but no clues as to the other. Thanks!

Default Background....

Hi,

Just to give a little background to this. I live in a shared community that wants to get rid of these paintings. Any information on artist and date would help us retain these. I have identified a third painting that came with these two-that was a Renoir copy.

Appreciate any help, Raj

The still life looks like a Giovanni Barbaro painting.

Thanks for the reply Roger. Sorry to take so long to reply back, I've been away with work. I can see what you mean by similarities to Barberi, but not 100% convinced as the style of Barberi grapes seem to be a little different to the painting, and the Barberi backgrounds from the few I've seen online seem to be lighter than on this painting (the dark background is what made me think of of Charles Thomas Bale in the first instance). The vines do however look similar to the style painted by Giovanni Barberi.

Do you or anyone else have any idea as to who might have painted the portrait? It seems very familiar but unable to work out whom!
Still battling to keep these in the community!

Thanks, Raj

Hi Raj,

Are we talking about the same artist? I'm referring to Giovanni Barbaro (real name Arthur Dudley, British artist who specialised in still life and Arabian scenes).

Thanks,

Roger.

What do you think?

Wink

Hi,

I had based my initial response on the left hand painting on this site (still life):

http://www.bentonfineart.com/watercolours.php

However, the right hand still life and the link you used are much more like our painting. Thanks Roger, I think you've hit the nail on the head

Raj

OK Raj, I think that's it. Where did your comm obtain these paintings as they are very marketable? There wouldn't be any problem selling them in the UK.
Cheers.

Roger.

Default Paintings...

Hi,

A friend and I volunteered to refurb a room in our community. I actually purchased the paintings from a rural antique dealer who had had them for a while, and as now specialising in clocks, wanted rid. Unfortunately, the Directors refused to reimburse us, as they are 'unsuitable' so this now has to go to a community vote next week, which is why I was trying to find out who the artists were. (We live in a house built in 1860, so I thought these paintings were ideal-who wrong I was!)

As far as I can tell, Barbaro only did watercolours, so the still life (sized 32 inches by 22 inches must be a copy (it is an oil)). Even so, I think they were a bargain, and perfectly in keeping with the house.

Take a look: www.whitbournehall.com

Default Still Life signed by M. Raymand?

Discovered this on the still life yesterday (sorry for not noticing before).

OK Raj, that's ruled that one out then. Can't find any reference to this artist but it can still make a price at auction. Did you pay much?
Roger.

Hi Roger,

I paid £50 each for the smaller portraits (Renoir copy + other at the start of the thread), and the large still life, (I quoted canvas size before and not framed), £150 for.

OK Raj,
Have a valuation from your local art dealer/auction house. Probably a Birmingham company would produce good results. Good luck.
