Default Kowalski Painting

I need help with a piece of artwork I have. It measures 9 inches wide by just under 7 inches high. The back of the painting reads: THE LONE WOLF #2224 FROM PAINTING BY KOWALSKI. It appears to be very old and the frame is very old. Can you tell me what I might have? Can you tell me a value on such a piece? Dan.

Default Kowalski painting

Hello,
I, too, have an old print of the Lone Wolf. There is a lot of information on the web which you can get by googling. There is a You Tube entry called "“The Lone Wolf--Wierusz-Kowalski”. The narrator of this video provides a lot of information which seems to me to give a fairly accurate account of available information about this painting. Some people trace the print of the Lone Wolf back to the Polish Painter, ALFRED WIERUSZ-KOWALSKI, who has an entry on WikiAnswers. His original painting entitled "Wilk" (wolf in English) is worth seeing. The print of the Lone Wolf was immensely popular and hung in many living rooms during the 20's up to 40's or so. It seems that at the time, since there were no copiers the way we have now, other artists would make copies of the original art. I found a lot of conflicting information. You might try Wikipedia as well. The name of this Polish painter is also referred to in several different forms. Good luck.
