I've inherited this painting from my grandmother. It's signed K. Billy and is quite a nice painting. The only reference to K. Billy Paintings that i could find were a couple of smaller landscape paintings for sale and the owner knows nothing about him/her either. Anyone out there able to help? Thanks

I have discovered a similar one for sale on a canadian craiglist board, picture 1 below. A fellow in North Carolina who had two smaller mountain landscape paintings by K. Billy for sale, picture 2 below, with this info:
MOUTAINS, TWO OIL PAINTINGSBY K. BILLY SMALL IN NICE FRAMES 10X8 1980 $269.00 and this reply from heritage auctions: "RE: Winter Landscape Oil Paining by K. Billy (Ask An Expert|Art: Fine Art: American|ID 7036457|Value: $0 - $1,000) I could find no auction records by any artist with this name. I believe that you have a work by an amateur artist. There would be no monetary value to your painting. It would have decorative or sentimental value only which cannot be measured in dollars. MaryB" I'm not sure what to make of her reply though because with just a little digging I have found several more of his/her paintings scattered all around the country and farther. Would you happen to have a picture of your painting you could post? I would be very interested in seeing it. Also, if you don't mind me asking, where are you from? Even as an "amatuer artist, their work seems to be spread out quite far. I'm from NW Pennsylvania My private messages here does not seem to work so if anyone would like to contact me, share pics etc. please write k0y0te@roadrunner.com Last edited by Atakith : May 10th, 2009 at 05:49 PM. |

I bought a painting signed K. Billy at a local auction in Bexhill-on-Sea, near Hastings, England, UK. It is a scene of what appears to be a French City in winter. The clothing worn by the people in the foreground makes me think of early 20th century although I doubt that that was when it was painted.
I didn't pay much for it but I doubt that the value was represented as it was not the type of auction where art lovers would go. It is the only peice of original art I have ever bought. I simply bought it because I liked it. I must be honest and say that I know little about art but I know what I like. I came accross this thread and forum while trying to find something out about him. If you want to see the picture please email me and I'll happily send you a picture. Best wishes, Ziggy, Hastings, England. bhaziggy@tiscali.co.uk |
