Default Please help me, need the artist or the painting's title.

7 years ago I went to the Louvre and saw the portrait of a (blonde?) woman in a long blue dress, or blue coat. From what I can remember, she is wearing a blue hat and blue gloves, and is sitting on a park bench. I think she has a book on her lap (might be an umbrella) and is looking at us (or the painter) with melancholic eyes, her chin resting in her left hand.

Would be very grateful if someone could help me identify this painting! Thanks.

Hello Jiffius
Did you try once to read with gloves? That makes me think you could mix more than one painting in your memory. So I ask for you on a french server, the 74 pages with "woman-book" painting in french museums. Let's know if you find yours.

From the description, I am picturing something by Tissot. Perhaps this painting, although I don't know where it is currently located. Certainly not in the Louvre.

Well I appreciate your help, gentlemen.

I've looked through the 74 pages at Réunion des musées nationaux's site, and couldn't find it.

I've also been looking at some of Tissot's paintings for the last 30 minutes, and, while I doubt it was done by him, the style is similar. I have found a painting by him in which a lady is portrayed with the same pose (chin in the palm of the hand).

If it helps, I would say the painting was done between 1800-1920.

Well, I found it, thanks to you!

I entered the keywords femme+banc (woman + bench) at the RMN's site, and there it was! I was right about the book(s) and the gloves . It seems though that time made the green shift into a deep blue in my head. I think it's because my ex girlfriend had this painting on a poster on her (deep blue)wall.

While her expression still captivates me, I don't think melancholy is the right word.

Well maybe it is, I've just looked at the painting again, and I'm not sure.

Just to be clear, it was the one by Mary Cassatt, of Lydia on a green bench?

Yes, my bad! I meant to include a link to the painting, and the title/painter. I thought I did, but then had a doubt so I went to check back, but couldn't see my message because I think they have to be moderated first, and that can take several hours.

-It is not in the Louvre or even in France but in Rome
-She is not wearing anything blue
-She has no book or umbrella on her lap
So there was in fact a problem with your memory
Thanks. I feel reassured about mine
