What I have is an old framed sketch/ drawing/print (?) done in a pink pencil of a nude man with wings sitting with his head bowed and left arm outstretched. It measures approximately 11 x 13". Its difficult to make out the small words at the bottom of this item but what I can get is "Dessine par Andrea del Sarto", "Grave par Iphonse leroy", and in even tinier print something like "Paris imp de drouart n du Fouarre, 21". The frame is quite old and not in great shape. Can anyone help me to identify this? Would be happy to send a picture to anyone that wishes. |

Here's my interpretation, seems likely but not guaranteed to be correct...
"Drawn by Andrea del Sarto", i.e. it's based on a drawing by him. "Engraved by Alphonse Leroy". There's a famous 18th-century painting of Alphonse Leroy, although he's identified as a doctor and I can't find any details of his life. "Paris [printed] by Drouart, rue du Fouarre". Created by printing company Drouart, of Fouarre road, Paris. |
