This oil painting is 24" by 28". It came from Belgium. It is signed J Pauwels but the style and signature don't match any of the Pauwels I've been able to locate. I don't think it is Henre J Pauwels or Josef Pauwels.
You see the tack holes on the side of the canvas. The tacks has been replaced by staples. It is canvas but the back has a lining of burlap. Any information you can give me about the painting would be appreciated. http://s575.photobucket.com/albums/s...ls%20Painting/ |

The last couple of years I see more and more paintings of Pauwels for sale on the Internet. Most of the paintings are sold in Belgium. Different seller have different stories of this painter. Some said he is from Holland (Rotterdam), others said he comes from Belgium.
This painting could be by Jos Pauwels. He is from Belgium and he made landscape paintings in an impressionist style. Nobody knows for sure but it could be that Jos and Henri Joseph Pauwel is the same painter. To make it even more complicated there is also another painter by the name Henri Jules Pauwels. He is from Belgium too. I don't think that Pauwels had a style of his own. He just painted what sold good. Farmhouse in the country, haborview, portrait or stilllife he could paint it all Last edited by mp.kunst : November 10th, 2010 at 05:38 PM. |
