Hello,
I just got this painting from my uncle who passed away. He was 86 years old and lived in Lowell, Mass all his life. not sure where it came from or how old it is. there are no markings or signatures on it.. the back of the painting looks like it may have had a paper backing at one time becuase you can see where the tape ran around the frame. there are slat looking pieces of either soft wood or cardboard going across the back to hold it in place. The frame is about 4 feet high. I'm wondering if anyone can identify the painter or know how I may find out about this painting??? here is a photo of the picture: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...9&l=0d34cd5095 any info would be appreciated ! please email me at : dethstrike@comcast.net Thanks! It's a copy of the famous Sistine Madonna, by Raphael.
BTW, I didn't know this until I looked it up, but it's not related to Raphael's frescoes at the Vatican's Sistine Chapel. It is so named because it was painted as a commission for the monks of the monastery of San Sisto in Piacenza, |
