Hello,
I recently purchased this painting at an antique auction. I cannot make out the signature and have tried multiple combinations but the artist's signature is not legible. I think its a copy because the frame has 15/61 handwritten. I have also searched images online and have had no success. Can you help? I have attached the image of the painting and the signature as well as the stamp on the back of the canvas. Thank you. |

I read that as E Grutzner. Cop.
So presumably it's a copy of a work by Eduard von Grutzner, who specialised in paintings of monks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eduard_von_Gr%C3%BCtzner |

Thank you Hercules. He was one that came up in my search but wan't sure (and the auction house didn't label) Can you point me to a link where I can research his entire body of work so I can find out more about the original including name of painting? Thanks.
