Hi,
My parents have this picture in a frame and have always been very fond of it, yet there is no author name on it and we would like to know a bit about it. The only clue is that the wall has the word Pears engraved into one of the blocks which made me think it might have been an advertisement. Any help would be appreciated. I think it's a print, not a painting but it dates back a long way. Link... http://www.flickr.com/photos/30648863@N03/5277406476/ Thanks Duncan |

Does anybody know any other sites that would help identifying a picture?

I believe both askart.com and findartinfo.com have forums where you can ask questions.

I did an extensive search of Pear Soap advertisements last week and could not locate this as one. A number of the artists are unknown. A few of the more noted artists are John Everett Millais - Bubbles, Sir Edward Poynter - Low Tide and Frederick Morgan - His Turn Next. I believe Frederick Morgan may have done a number of Pear Ad's as one of his specialties was painting children.
On one of the bricks in this painting there is something written...having trouble making it out perhaps someone else can. Additionally it could be an Italian artist as it looks to be Venice. |

Thanks for your reply, yes, the text in the brick says PEARS, this is why I also initially thought it would be for Pears soap. I also thought Venice originally but then wondered why Pears would be in the brick. |

Sorry about that...missed your comment regarding the brick.
You're positive it reads PEARS? I believe if it was a PEARS ad it would also have SOAP written alongside the PEARS. |

In Google's image search, click the little camera icon inside the search box. Then you can upload a picture to be searched for or specify a web URL. The feature has been around for maybe 6 months or so, but it's well hidden and few people seem to know about it.
