I'm looking for the name of a painting I saw at the Museum of Modern Art in NY in the 1970's and 1980's. I can't remember its name, nor the name of artist.
The main visual elements are some very meaty Crucified Carcasses in the backdrop, and a Speaker at the Microphone in the forefront. The Speaker depicts some fascist archetype spewing out rhetoric. The painting used to be (perhaps still is) a part of the Museum's permanent collection, and was listed and discussed in a book with pictures published by the Museum in the late seventies. Can you please help me find it? Thank you very much! Petros, ttetpos at yahoo dot com __________________ |

Thank you very much.
You turned me on to the right track and I found everything I was looking for. It's the piece by Francis Bacon titled "Painting 1946". Here's a good picture of it: http://www.artquotes.net/masters/bac...inting1946.jpg And its entry at the MOMA: http://www.moma.org/collection/objec...bject_id=79204 Very grateful, Petros http://petros-evdokas.cyprus-org.net...roduction.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
