Hello
I need to identify the artists of these two paintings - is there anyone out there who recognises them and can help? Hope you can see the attachment. Thank you very much! |

I do recognize one of the paintings. A very famous, very early Renaissance painting.
In your other thread, you say you need this for a quiz. I don't want to help you unfairly -- can you clarify what methods you're supposed to be using in order to identify the dogs? |

Hello John, I think I have just found them both. I knew I recognised them but had been thinking Hogarth for the first (wrongly). They are Landseer and Van Dyke.

Hello John, I have discovered the artists now as Landseer and Van Dyke but I had at first thought the Landseer was Hogarth which confused me. Thank you for your time and help

John is right for the second one which is "the Arnolfini portrait" by Jan van Eyck. The other is from a portrait of Queen Victoria by Sir Edwin Landseer

Make sure you don't confuse Anthony van Dyck with Jan van Eyck, the latter being the artist you are looking for.
