I bought this painting [ canvas on board ] 35 yrs ago in a small "antique" / junk shop in central Massachusetts. It was dirty and the frame was in poor condition [ both conditions remain to this day....never found that " round toit"]. It is a wonderful seascape. I cannot find a signature. It has a partial lable on the back [Spring..] which I think might stand for a gallery in Springfield, MA. I would guess that it dates back to the early 1900's Thanks, Paula |

It looks like canvas not board. Are you sure? Can you post more photos. A photo of the whole front and photos of the torn label on the back and a photo of the nails if it is canvas and a photo of any stamp or writing on the back of the canvas.

Hi,
You are correct, it is canvas stretched over a wood frame. My husband says that the frame appears to be mortise and tendon type. I have attached one photo of the whole front and will take more photos of nails and stamps. One stamp appears to say Frost & Adis...Cornhill Boston and the other looks like a pic of art supplies and says Springfield. Both are very old and difficult to read. Thanks, Paula |

You are correct it is a canvas stretched over wood. It is approximately 24" X 10" . I have attached photos of the whole front, nails, labels and mortise/tendon type corners of frame.
Thanks, Paula |

By the address 37 Cornhill on the frame is one that Frost & Adams would have sold between 1881-1921 form this address.
