Great art detective appreciated
Greetings and thank you in advance for your help.
My husband was given this piece of art by his late mom I believe over twenty years ago. Here is what we know about it. It was part of a collection called "the african collection" and it is a batik piece very large and framed. He thinks it was a collection of about a dozen. We have tried so hard to make out the signature we know the first letter is an M we think the last name is swanger or something close to that but very hard to make out. The piece is very large and matted and glass and framed. When he was given it before she passed she had said that the price back then was about $3000.00 This was long before african art became more popular. The piece has been very well kept. We were hoping to pass it on to his children, but the last year has been devastating for us as we have lost our home and I have become very ill. He has a son that is being approached by a very good college and while there will be some scholarship funds it will in no way cover what is needed and we do not want him to lose this chance because we are facing hard times. If someone does want to help look into this I can take a picture of the art and send it along. Also happy to answer any questions. We would be so grateful for the assistance and of course like anyone would be ecstatic if this does turn out to have a value so we can help his son achieve his dream. Thank you in advance for your help. Kevin and Ellen
