Question Has an artwork ever effected the way you think or act?

Hi,
as part of my PhD research I am currently investigating how artworks endure in the minds of viewers after their reception in a gallery (or in public space). I ask: Is art effective in a sustained way? Perhaps you like to share your views on this: Did an artwork ever make you DO (e.g. invent, buy, book, build, treat, protest against...) or rethink anything?
Looking forward to your comments!

Greetings Joerg,

All of my favorite artwork that I have created has been inspired by an image I saw somewhere. I am often inspired to buy books about the artists I view in special exhibits.

I hope your topic generates some discussion here.

Hi Judy,
thanks for that quick reply. The effectiveness of artworks on other artists is always a special case and perhaps the most tangible impact. Looking forward to more replies from both artists and non-arrtists!

Greetings Joerg,

What is the timeline for your research? I am afraid you might not get much response here. You might consider joining Getty TeacherArtExchange list - a very active listserve.

posting email address is on the above URL

To register:

State the purpose of your research and your question and I am certain you will get some replies there. Many teachers are also artists. I am a former teacher (and I make a little art).

Best wishes to you.
