Could this be the artist? Nicolas Robert, 1614-1684.
Variae ac multiformes florum species appressae ad viuum et aeneis tabulis incisae = diverses fleurs dessinees et gravees d'apres le naturel. London: Scolar Press, 1975. Facsimile of the Paris ed., ca. 1660, from a copy in the Lindley Library of the Royal Horticultural Society. Robert started out as a painter of ornamental flower pictures but his work became more botanically oriented after he was hired by the Duke of Orleans to draw the rare and exotic plants and animals brought to the Duke's gardens. Scholars believe that the Scottish botanist Robert Morison, director of the gardens, encouraged Robert to take a more scientific approach to his subject. http://http://www.lib.udel.edu/ud/sp...rt/herbals.htm ![]() http://www.fineart-appraisals.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=appraisal.certificate&act=for m&item_id=167908 Last edited by Eirene : January 26th, 2011 at 11:28 PM. |

As the appraisal suggests, a print created during the artist's lifetime would be worth much more.
You didn't even post a picture, so nobody could begin to advise you as to what you have in your possession, but it seems unlikely you have an original of this type and personally I would start looking at eBay to see what similar prints go for. |

I meant you didn't post a picture of your own copies. The point is that they're probably not of great value but we have no way of guaranteeing that.
