In regards to the artist F Lefler, there was actually two brothers both artists and both initials the same, one was as you said Franz, I cant remember for sure but the other was Fritz. I have a very large litho portraying the 3 cherubic children called " The Serenade". It is dated from the late 1800's.
I watch antique roadshow and once saw an original oil painting and they appraised it in the 25-30,000.00 $ range! And it was sothebys that said it but when I tried to call and find out more info they said they could not come up with anything. So who knows. very confusing.... and I am surprised that so many are still around. |

What is very neat is the frame is wood and has been burn into with cherubs all around and blends very well into the picture. The name on the frame has the name of D. Parkerson, Chicago burnt into the front in the bottom corner. |

I find it very interesting that these prints all seem to have the same story. My grandparents bought their house in Florence Township, Ohio, in 1911, and the picture was hanging in the house at that time, so I don't know how it happened to get to Ohio. If anyone has information about it's value or origin, please email me directly chris.sayler@oberlin.edu. Thank you!

I don't know that I can add much, but auction records for the last 6 years indicate that oils would go for $1000-$4000, while prints (lithographs, chromolithographs) are in the $30 range. Condition is a big factor, and so is sentiment.
As for the Kees Van Dongen, if it is for real, that could be anywhere from $800 to $250,000. Take it to a museum or art school to have someone really look at it. -Dallas |

And I've got a heliograph of Franz Lefler work made by J.Blechinger. It is one of the Pinx pictures. But I don't know the name of the pict. exactly. The frame is old and beautiful. on the back side it is said 'Max Tintner. Atelier fur delportraits u. kunstmalerei, fabriks - niderlage von Rahmen, Spiegeln u. Vergolderwaaren' There is also a number there as it was a museum exhibit. I would appreciate a lot if someone will inform me about the name of the picture and probable value of the heliograph. Is heliograph a rare thing or not? What do you think? Thank you!

I, too, have the same print. It hung in my grandparents house 65 years ago, that I remember, and I found it in my mother's basement, so asked if I could have it, and her response was almost the same as your grandmother's - "What, that! Sure take it." It does have a partial date written on the back "189_", and says "To ---------Kitchen" which was my grandparent's surname. I am interested in any information you may have discovered.

A large beautiful landscape signed by F. Lefler. Has the same quality as the cherub pictures. This is NOT a print. It is an oil pastel landscape. The frame is very old, with bubbles in the glass. Any thoughts on this work of art is appreciated.

I have the same F. Lefler "print" of the 2 boys and 1 girl ( one with flute, other with mandolin, girl with fan). I bought it at Flea Market about 25 years ago in the South New Jeresey/Philadelphia (USA) area.
I was intrigued by the picture and the paper print is fragile, some torn in corners and some water damage in a very old gold frame (16X30). The back has a old thin piece of wood behind the picture. I must say my interest was in the print and together with the "oldness" from the paper and frame..it really intrigued me as to who had owned it and how it was left at a Flea Market! Still today ..I find the children and colors and the "angelic like" presence from this lithograph very "catching". Does anyone know a value/if any for these? At some point I would like to find this a good home and not have it end up in a Flea Market. Also, I would like to further protect the print/lithograph from further movement and damage by placing some on top of it in the fram...any ideas as to what I can do? Thanks. |
