Smile Primitive Painting, Fourth of July, by Ethel Ream

I am searching for my grandmothers painting, "Fourth of July". This painting was on the cover of Family Circle magazine in July 1967. The family is looking for this painting and who purchased it. We are also looking for some of her other paintings. Any information would be helpful. She painted like Grandma Moses and the Fourth of July painting was awesome. ANy information would be appreciated.

We have a print of it in our home. We were also wondering how rare those were. It has a Copyright symbol and the date of 5-1967 with it in the corner and looks as if it is still in the original frame. Would you happen to have any information that could be of use?

Default Fouth of July Print

Not sure if the post i tried to make earlier went through but i have a print copy of what i think to be what you are looking for. Again it is a print so i do not know if that is of any value. It has the signature, copyright symbol and date of 1967 on it in the bottom right corner. It still looks as if it is in the original frame and backing. Maybe you have some information of its value or rarity that you could share with me?

Sorry the actual date the painting was on Family Circle was July 1969 but the painting was done 5-67. I have one of the prints but am looking for the actual painting. Thanks.

Not sure of the value of the print. I have one of those too that I found on E-bay. It was on the cover of Family Circle in 1969 rather than 1967. They could be ordered from that magazine for $1 I believe back in 1969. I don't know how many were sold or anything. Sorry not much info. My grandmother passed at the age of 98. One of her paintings was in a museum in New York and was for sale a few years back but I have had no luck findng the Fourth of July painting.

Smile Fourth of July Picnic by ETHEL REAM 5-1967 C

I'vd had this picture for a long time now. It's under 21" x 17" in perfect condition. It's in a very clean frame with glass also. I have been trying to find out more about this person. I have no idea on the value, I've just always thought it was very unique. But if a family member is looking for it, that is where it belongs.

Hi Shirlee, I have this in an old frame, BUT, I'm not sure if it is a painting or a print. it looks to me as if it is a print. Can you give me some history of your grandmothers back ground. I live in Shreveport, Louisiana, was she from around this area? Beautiful picture!

Mygrandmother was from Somerset Ohio. She started painting in the late 1960's. The fourth of July print was on the front of Family Circle magazine. most of the paintings were from the Ohio area I believe.

My grandmother was from OHio. Most of the paintings are from around that area. She started painting in the late 1960's when she started taking an art class in Grand rapids, MI while visiting my family. She passed away at the age of 97.

Did you try contacting the publishers of Family Circle magazine? If it was painted on a commission from them, or if it was purchased by them, then they may still own it or have some record of what became of it.
