Kind of feels like we're helping you with your homework, but I'll make a couple of suggestions...

Two works by Marcel Duchamp: The Mona Lisa with a moustache and goatee drawn on it ("L.H.O.O.Q."), and the urinal he submitted to an art exhibition ("Fountain"). These works, from way back in 1919 and 1917, were so revolutionary and genuinely controversial that they make much of 20th-century art seem moot.

Default Weird Artworks

Greetings,

You might find Damien Hirsts' works weird. Check out the shark:

http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/hirst_damien.html

Also quite strange is Meret Oppenheim's Fur-covered cup, saucer, and spoon

You might go to the library and get a book on modern art and look through that. Much of modern art was considered weird at the time it was created.

A few more artists that have occurred to me...

Anything by Arcimboldo. Today those optical-illusion portraits are commonplace, but I can't imagine what people made of them 500 years ago.

Anything by Salvador Dali, for obvious reasons.

Those mass nude portraits by Spencer Tunick. More as a social phenomenon -- the photographs themselves aren't especially weird or shocking. They're merely exactly what you'd expect them to be.

Those intricate tableaus of demons and oddities by Hieronymus Bosch. Another fairly obvious suggestion, but it's worth noting that Pieter Bruegel and Matthias Grunewald did a number of similar paintings.

Default Weird Artworks

Greetings,

I think we are fairly close to ten for you, while it is hard to pick the "top ten" weirdest. You have a representative from Dada already (Duchamp) but you might want to look at more of that as most of it is "weird". I think something by Picasso should be in your list (since his is always the most popular search on Arcyclopedia). Get a book and look at his synthetic cubism. Some of his sculptures could be considered weird too. Here is just one painting that is a bit weird "The Joy of Life" (1946). A quickie Google image search didn't bring up a good image of it so you will have to look for it on one the comprehensive sites. I think you could also include something from the Medieval gargoyles and grotesques. You might also consider Claes Oldenburg - monumental soft sculptures (probably a good idea to have someone from Pop art in there). There is also a lot of "weird" if you look at cultural art, too (some African masks are quite strange looking - look up Kuba in particular - such as Mukyeen mask http://www.uic.edu/depts/ahaa/classes/ah111/kuba.jpg).

The book Humor in Art by Nicholas Roukes has a lot of "weird" - some more noted artists than others.

Please post back to the forum the ten you selected as the "top ten"

Did we get your homework done in time?

I enjoyed seeing your suggestions, John...Like minds....Bosch and Dali would be on my list, too

Regards,

Judy

Default Weird - Strange and a bit creepy

Here is another one to add to the list.
I posted your question to TeacherArtExchange list and will share results here as they are posted.
Look up Ron Mueck (who work was also in the Sensation Exhibit)

From the post:
"His hyper-realist sculptures are fascinating, but definitely weird, and
kind of creepy!"
