Scarborough

I'm trying to find out an artists and the oil paintings name that used to hang on my Grandmothers wall. I loved this painting but never asked who painted it and if I knew I'd have a copy made.
The description from memory, as it disappeared 20 years ago.
A big round shouldered bearded old man (possibly tramp), walking towards the artist at night on a dimly lit street (or it could have been a grey rainy day), dressed in a long coat and hat. As you look at the front of this man walking along the city/town path, the shops are on his left and kerb/road on the right.
I may not be accurate on some of the above points as it's such along time ago, but I'd know the painting on sight, I have from time to time had a search, but don't know where to start? I'd be very grateful for any suggestions you might have.
