Default For real detectives: painting name and artist?

For the more well-informed out there: I recall seeing a painting, classic or neo-classic, of a night scene with a subject walking on the ground, head down, apparently tormented, by a ring of supernatural beings (angels, devils?) hovering over his head. It was a dark painting, reminiscent of Goya (who apparently didn't paint it), much black and amber in color. If I had to guess, it suggests the theme of madness. I'm not a macabre person, but the image did strike me. Thanks to any who know more than me, which is probably most.
