Default Help ID 2 abstract paintings... Washington DC area.

Greetings.

I have 2 abstract paintings that I purchased at the same time at a second hand shop in Maryland about 10 years ago. I took these pieces to the Antiques Roadshow last year and 2 experts said that the "horse" painting was "something" but they weren't sure what. They advised me to contact the major auction house's Asian art departments which I did with little luck. The "flowers in vase" painting, one expert said; "I know who that artist is, I've sold many of those paintings when working in DC but I can't remember the name." I'm so frustrated. If anyone knows anything about these 2 paintings or knows who painted them, please let me know.

Horse is on cardboard with the date or exhibit #43-16-2 on front and back. Measures 14 x 22" Close up of illegible signature (?) attached.
(To me, it looks like it's "after" Picasso's horse study for Guernica.

Flowers are on paper. Not signed. Measures 18 x 24" (Paris + Francois are painted across the top.)

Thank you art lovers!

Yes, I like the horse painting a lot (still lifes don't usually do much for me). I agree there is a visual echo of Guernica, but it's not that strong and I'm not sure it would be intentional.

The photo of the signature is too small to have much hope of reading it.

P.S. It actually is quite reminiscent of this painting by Delacroix...

Yes, the painting is reminiscent of Delacroix. I hadn't run across that. I will try to get a link for larger images. Does anyone know the best way to do that? Thanks.

If you click "Post Reply" below left, you can use the paperclip icon to upload an attachment (image). The size limit for images is around 500K I believe.

I've put the images in Photobucket where they can be seen in a larger format.
Thanks!
