As a part time framer I've been asked to touch up this painting. It was purchased at an auction and the owner knows little about it. It is signed W Weekes and is very detailed as is Weekes style. It's very old (nailed canvas on old stretchers) and could possibly be imitating "Feeding the Pigs" by William Weekes. If it happens to be very valuable I hesitate to touch it up as that it's not my expertise.
Can anyone tell me how I may find it's real value? Thanks |

Can you try the upload again? The picture did not come through.

It's so similar to "Feeding the Pigs" that I don't think there's any question it's either by William Weekes or else it's a copy/forgery purporting to be by Weekes. This painting seems to be competently done and Weekes wasn't a great talent anyway (IMO), so I don't see how the issue could be resolved reliably based on a jpeg image.
Findartinfo.com has a bunch of sample auction prices for William Weekes. Generally speaking, his works go for several thousand dollars or sometimes much more. I think you're right to question whether you ought to be toying with it if you're not a professional restorer. |

Thanks John.
You can see my concern. Even the signature looks like Weekes... signed in red. I'll do some further research. Bob |
