About 18 months ago, I purchased a Dutch watercolour, depicting a view of Zandaam in Holland, signed E. Lett. The painting appears to have some age, the reverse of the card having browned with age, although the painting appears to be undamaged and unfaded.
Today, Zandaam is a suburb of Amsterdam, but in the watercolour, it is an old fashioned scene, so the painting depicts the town as it was many years ago, and I guess the view depicted has not existed for many years. The painting is very well executed and I expected to discover some information about the artist. However, surprisingly I have been unable to discover any information about the artist, who I presume to be Dutch or any trace of them in any of the many on-line or library art records in Westminster's considerable art reference library. I would be grateful to anyone who might be able to share any information about this artist. Many thanks, Richard. del111@blueyonder.co.uk Last edited by Richard_J : March 2nd, 2008 at 04:03 PM. |
