Does anyone know who this painter may be? It is on an old nude that I have. Thank you all.

Okay, well it reads "BARNFI TONE '33". It may be a plausible name with a few strokes missing, like "Barnet Jones", but I don't see any indication of that.
Also, that's not an "S" at the beginning of line 3 is it? Here's an enlarged and enhanced image that may be helpful... |

I think it's BARNA TONE, a name in Norway for example.
But it would help to see the whole painting, wouldn't it? Luca |

I don't know John, I just took it as part of a 'J'. Always looked like Barna Tone to me, but of course that name does not come up in any searches. Could just be a local. Thanks John.

Yeah, now I think it probably is "Barna", even though the final letter is quite squared-off.

Heinrich Axenfeld, French/Russian artist, act. 1850-1885 - perhaps.
How shall we decide this without seeing the whole painting??? Luca |
