Default Old Painting, No Visible/Readable Artist Name, Any Help Identifying Much Appreciated

I have an old painting which depicts a beached ship (black and red in colour) with a broken mast with swells of water crashing over its stern. The beach is littered with cargo and there are a number of people which seem to be salvaging the ruins. To the right of the ship there is what appears to be a castle or large manor on a hilltop which is overlooking the scene.

There appears to be what may have been at one point a legible signature of the artist however at this point it is too unclear to read even when digitally enhancing and altering the colours to make the letters appear more vividly.

I have a digital copy of the painting which I could email to those interested and capable of determining the artist and history of this painting.

please email me at jeffmilliken08@gmail.com if you are willing to lend a hand.

Thanks!

You can upload the picture, if it's smaller than about 500Kbytes in size. Just click "post reply" and use the paperclip icon to upload an attachment. I recall a semi-famous painting on this subject, but I forget offhand who the artist was.

That's not the painting I was thinking of. No idea who may have been the artist.
