Default Archaic Nomenclature

Does anyone know the meaning of the term "Re-Proof" on an etching/engraving. While attempting to search this out I get two opposite definitions. One, that it is an "after" work and a copy (much like Durrand's Rembrandts). The other definition is that it is a contraction of the term "remarque proof" which is somewhat analogous to a artist's proof. As you can see, this would greatly affect the value of a work either way.

Any ideas from anyone. If you know references I can go to, I would greatly appreciate it.
