I have two old paintings, that I got from my gram. She died 15 years ago in her late 80's. She had them hanging on her wall for as long as I can remember ... I'd like to know who the artist is -- if anyone knows -- and an aproximate insuring amount. She came from Poland as a child, and spent her life in NYC -- Brooklyn. I thought for a moment, when I was trying to figure out the signature, that it said "Pasternak", if so, they were done by a relative ... I also don't know if these are paintings commissioned - OF family members. ???
As you can probably see, I have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() thanks. |

The first one looks a lot like Mary Cassatt. I think I might have even seen this painting, but I'm not sure.
The second one is by Thomas Eakins. It's a portrait of his wife (and his dog), the original of which is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I can't comment on whether you've got a reproduction or a handpainted copy or what. http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/eapa/ho_23.139.htm |
