Could anyone please advise me if they know the name and artist of an old painting that hung in my grandmother's house (long gone) of a large black lab (appeared to be a lab) with head hung down low. The lab was sitting by an empty cradle, obviously greiving over the loss of a baby. I would appreciate any information you can give me. Thank you.

Landseer was the prototypical painter of this sort of thing (sentimental animal pictures), but I believe this particular painting is by Gustave Mosler.
Here's a link to a discussion at AskArt: http://www.askart.com/AskART/artists...S&artist=20433 Here's a link to a reproduction of the painting: http://despertaferro.zoomblog.com/ar...perdido_2.html ![]() |

That's it, that's it. I haven't seen this picture in years and years. Thank you so much - now I've got to find out how I can get a copy. Sure do appreciate this. Karen in Texas

The painting is by Gustav Henry Mosler. He was born in NY on 6/16/1875 and died at Margaretville, NY on 8/17/1906 at the age of 31. His father was also an artist. There is a little bit of info on Wikipedia, but more on his dad on other sites.
