Default Court painting of Ladies Seated at a Table

Hi people, I received an email from someone trying to identify this damaged reproduction of a painting so that he can replace it. I took the picture he sent, which was far from great, and enlarged it and optimized it for my own setup. Any ideas?

I hope he doesn't mind if I quote his description from the email:

"The picture in question has two or three ladies dressed in fine clothes seated at a table in a palace and on the right (damaged side of the painting) a man is walking into the room dressed in high style in clothes that remind me of the knee britches of the George Washington era or earlier. There is a oriental rug on the floor with part of the rug wrinkled or turned up and the man looks as though he could trip on the rug as he walks into the room. There is also a dog on the right side of the picture as well. I don't know if this is a French or Dutch or Flemish painting. This painting was given to my parents along with The Chess Game by the furniture store so I am guessing that they are somewhat from the same era and similar theme."
