I have a painting that appears to be oil on a masonite or hard type board. It is approx 8 3/4 by 6 1/2. It is in a frame so it is difficult to get an exact measurment. There are 3 people in the painting...an old man with a hat, an old woman with a cap in the center and a man with a hat and cigarette in his mouth playing a string instrument (lute?) . It came from an art gallery in NY that appears to have gone bankrupt in 1921. Adolph de Jong art. I do not see anyother markings or artist identification on the painting but it is in a frame and I can't see the edges.

This painting is signed and dated in the upper right corner. If you can't read it, post a best photo of the area

I changed lenses and zoomed in on the upper right corner. There is a date..I am thinking it says 1906...but I am not making out the signature. If anyone has any input, I would appreciate your thoughts!
