Greetings, friends- please help! I came across this painting in Wikipedia, and the source listed is a dead end- can anyone tell me the artist, painting name, location, where I might get a print?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mystic_Marriage.jpg The source info has a link with no further information on it- topics I've searched under are, recitation of Divine Office, Book of Hours, Bernard of Clairvaux, mystic marriage, harrowing of Hell. Help, and thank you! |

This painting is by a sicilian artist called Daniele Montaleone. He was active in the years 1600/1630. It is in The church "chiesa del carmine" in the town of Modica (Sicilia). Probably the original image was displayed on some site around the year 2004 about an exhibition that took place in Siracusa
http://www.regione.sicilia.it/benicu...ere/index.html But this image was no longer displayed and the reference disappeared. I want to add that I have seen some mistakes here and there about the subject of the scene. I am pretty sure that more than some mystic marriage, it has to be called "Jesus welcoming his mother in heaven before Catherina de Sienne and S Francis of Assisi". |
