Found this print at a tag sale.
There is a caption (unfortunately not fully visible) below the image that reads something to the extent of, "The life of a single man is one at ease." http://i.imgur.com/PLoG0.jpg Any information regarding the title, artist, or anything of that sort would be amazing!! |

There's writing at the bottom right and bottom left of the drawing. At the bottom left, I see something close to Sebastian Nast possibly, with a date below it. Any luck reading that?

Hey John, I greatly appreciate your response!
Sadly...I never actually purchased the picture (...hoping I'd be able to find it online somewhere later when I got home.) Really kicking myself for it now! :P Anyway, this picture is really all I have. That's why I can't even be positive of the exact wording of the caption. The one I provided in my original post is about 90% though. At the time I figured that would be enough at least for Google to pull up something! You're right, Sebastian Nast looks very close...and underneath "Nast" was the year...which was 1890 or so. I cannot remember what was in the bottom right, but it was a name of some sort, no numbers. |

"Antique humorous engraving entitled "When a man's single he lives at his ease" after the 1877 work by the same name by Victorian / Edwardian painter John Watson Nicol "

Just thought I'd add...you guys have a great community here!
I'm not very much into arts, but like to look around at estate sales. At the end of the day yesterday I never thought I'd find the origin of the picture. Can't believe I get into work this morning and BOOM! there it is! Thanks so much again! |
