Default Old painting of a mother & child

Hello everyone. Long time ago a painting was given to my mother and after she passed away, it came to my poccesion. I have tried numerous google searches in order to indentify the painting/artist but without success. The painting is very old and is painted onto what seems to be a very hard piece of canvas + wood panel. There is no signature, at least in the front of the painting, since the back is covered with paper up to the border of the frame. Any help or suggestion will be highly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Looks like the child has a trace of a halo, making it probably a Madonna & Child. The composition generally reminds me of many Bouguereau paintings, although I'm sure there are plenty of Renaissance paintings that look broadly similar.
