Default Help me identify this artist or location.

I have this painting, Its oil on board. The size is 20" X 16" . There is some writing on the back
that I can't read along with the date "1871". On the front lower left corner it looks like "H.J." But
that is my interputation of the signature. The two men in the boat seem to be in blue uniforms
with blue caps and it looks like a American flag on the boat. Maybe Lewis and Clark. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hard to say, but to me it looks kind of Chinese. The mountains, the flowers, the boat, even the outfits remind me of Chinese communist-era garb. This is highly speculative, but how about "H. Ji" for the signature?
