Default Unknown, Unsigned but intense

My wife's parents bought a house in 1961 on the Detroit River along with all of its contents from one of Freud's nephews. This painting was in the attic and was slated to be thrown out. I really like it and wonder if anyone has any thoughts they care to share about it. It is in very bad repair but I intend to keep it. I suspect it is a student's work about 150 years old. Any comments are greatly appreciated

Personally I think that painting's got something to it, although the photo is not that great. I would definitely show it to an expert or appraiser in your area. It might unfortunately not be worth much more than the cost to get it professionally restored, but it's not bad. I could see having it hanging in my home.
