I have a beautiful pastel portrait from 1924 of a young woman in a cloche hat and it looks to be signed by W. S. Kerr. I'm not sure of the W. I have searched the internet and can find nothing about the artist. I thought I would try here. Thank you!

I'm leaning toward Senator W.S. Kerr out of Mansfield Ohio.
Knowing the subject of mine is the wife of Senator Given (New York) from that same time-frame it may be that Kerr took up working with pastels and provided works to his friends on the Bar or Congressional members. Thanks for posting this..I've been trying to figure out who M.S. Kerr was for some time, but I think this unlocks the puzzle. Nice knowing it was a prominent political figure from Ohio rather than an obscure artist. |

I do know that the subject in mine is a Mrs. Gardiner, the wife of a Dr. Gardiner (not sure of the spelling) who at least at the end of their lives lived in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. I now know more than I did if you are saying you believe it is an "M" and not a "W." Maybe I can do better research from there. Thank you!
