I recently purchased this drawing and do not know the artist. I can make out the words Madrid , 1909, 22 but that is all. There appears to be a signature in the corner. The frame is sealed and I have not opened the back. It also has written in hand "signed 1909." I have images of it but cannot figure out how to shrink the jpeg size to post.
Any suggestions on how to identify this is welcomed. Thank you |

You can use a photo editor such as IrfanView - free download - http://www.irfanview.com/ When installing I would only associate it with image files. Watch the installation as there might be other software they want to add...just uncheck. Once installed go to Image/Resize.

You can also put the photos on an image sharing site like photobucket, flckr or picasa and post a link to the images.

Thanks for making the helpful suggestions, people. I'd raise the upload limit, but I really don't see the point in allowing pictures at the current digital camera standard of 12 Mb and 5000+ pixels. It just makes the threads unreadable. 500 Kb is plenty large enough for our purposes.

One way to shrink a painting is:
Open the program “PAINT” on your computer (you can found it under accessories). Open the picture you want to shrink in PAINT. Go to IMAGE and select STRETCH and SKEW or (Ctr.+W). Fill in 70% in the stretch part both horizontal and vertical. And close the box by using OKE. Save the picture (Ctr.+S) and check if painting is 500 Kb or less. If not do the same again until it is the correct Kb. |

"Août" is French for "August", so it's a fair bet that the artist is French.
Possible names might be Berges, Borges or Burges. I can't suggest any artists of those names who would have been working in 1909. Or how about Pauline Elise Léonide Bourges, a French artist, who lived from 1838 to 1910? She was quite a talented figurative painter. |
