Looks like part of....someones interpretation of... 'Daniel In The Lions' Den' by Peter Paul Rubens.

Thanks both for your replies.

I didn't realise that it could have been a part of a painting and it certainly looks like 'Daniel in the Lions Den' was the original.
I would still like to find out *who* may have painted this particular copy.
I seem to recall a Victorian artist that painted in this naive way and produced images of wild animals, all with those strange 'smiley' facial features.

Edward S. Hicks, possibly? Having this be painted by any well-known artist seems like a longshot, though.
