Looks like part of....someones interpretation of... 'Daniel In The Lions' Den' by Peter Paul Rubens.

Thanks both for your replies.
I didn't realise that it could have been a part of a painting and it certainly looks like 'Daniel in the Lions Den' was the original. I would still like to find out *who* may have painted this particular copy. I seem to recall a Victorian artist that painted in this naive way and produced images of wild animals, all with those strange 'smiley' facial features. Dave |

Edward S. Hicks, possibly? Having this be painted by any well-known artist seems like a longshot, though.
