I have a picture which is from my grandfather in law who passed away. No one wanted it and I always thought it was very interesting and loved it so the inlaws were going to take it to good will and I asked If I could have it. I have got it restored, cleaned up and the frame fixed on it. Cost me $300 to do. But was so worth it for me. The guy at the local gallery says its could be 18th Century and that maybe its a christian monk. I have no Idea I would like to know if anyone can make out the signature and if anyone has any idea on who/what the old man is. I do not want to get rid of it, as its sentimental but I am not sure if Its worth getting insured. Any Info at all would help greatly. Thanks alot for your time! Very Happy

I'm not an art expert and I can only comment on what I can see in the photos, but if I was betting money I'd say it was painted in 1976. I guess 1876 is possible, but no way would I buy that it's from 1776. There are very few paintings from the 18th century floating around and they're not in good shape.
Not that it's a bad picture, I just don't think it's that old. |
