Here are 4 oil paintings of oriental man painted on what looks like tobacco leaves that I have. My mother-in-law, who passed away years back, was an artist and art teacher for a while. She also had a antique store in southern California, before she moved to northern California where I live now. She also collected art. When she passed, all the art was given to my husband. My closets are filled with art. We gave alot away to family, but still have some pieces that we liked. These 4 were very intriguing to us, besides being beautiful. One is signed by what looks like gris or Jris. We are not sure if she had them framed. We think maybe the other 3 signatures might be under the frames. The framed paintings are 19 X 15. Can anyone give me information about artist or paintings themselves? Thank you.

I assume you're the same person who posted the other day in this thread? Based on the signature, it sounds like at least one of yours is by the same person as the original poster.

Looks like "Jeis", which is probably wrong but that's the closest I can get. All I know about the subject is what I've read in the two threads here.

Lewis & Maese Auction in Houston estimated in 2007 an original tobacco leaf painting $50 - $75
Size of the painting: 18" x 23" |
