  • Unidentified painting?

Hi, I came across this painting a few years ago at an old church house I was renovating in wales. I haven't the slightest idea about art or paintings. I was hoping somebody out there may be able to shed some light. There seems to be no visible signature on this painting. Thanks.

Looks like not a bad painting, but personally I couldn't suggest who it might be of or whether it might be a copy of a famous painting.

Thanks for your reply. The only thing I can see on the painting which might be initials or something, is what looks like to resemble F.C.H?

Hmm. Here's a list of artists matching "FCH" from the Getty ULAN database. These are only artists whose middle name is listed, so even if this is by a listed artist they may not appear here. I doubt the painting dates back as far as the 1700s or more, but I'll include all the names here for completeness.

F.C. Harrison (British artist, active 20th century)
Fran?ois Joseph Corneille Haseleer (Belgian painter 1804-1869)
Frank C. Herbst (American illustrator, 1912-1970)
Fred C. Herrick (British artist, 1887-1970)
Friedrich Christoph Hirt (German artist, 1685-1763)
Franz Casppar Hofer (German artist, active 18th century)
Fels Char Hoffman (Swiss artist, active 1651)
Frances C. Houston (American artist, 1867-1906)
